General GST Questions

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a consumption tax of 10% on most goods and services. Some goods and services are GST-free or input-taxed. See ATO guidance for full details.
To add GST: multiply the price (ex. GST) by 1.10. To extract GST from a GST-inclusive price, divide the total by 11. Use our GST calculator link under Tools for examples.
Yes — GST is 10% in Australia on most taxable supplies. Some countries use different rates; ensure Australian GST rules apply to your sales.

Registration & ABN

You must register if your GST turnover is $75,000 or more per year (threshold is higher for some entities). You can also register voluntarily below that threshold if beneficial.
Yes. An ABN is required. If you don't have one, click 'Apply for ABN' above — we can apply for an ABN and optionally register you for GST at the same time.
Complete our one-page GST registration form with your ABN and business details. We'll validate the ABN, review the application, submit it to the ATO and email you confirmation once processed.
If your ABN is cancelled you must reactivate or reapply. We offer an ABN application service — use the 'Apply for ABN' page or call us for support.
Many registrations are processed within 1–24 hours after we submit them and the ATO completes checks. Some cases can take longer if additional information is required.

Reporting, BAS & GST Credits

Most small businesses lodge BAS quarterly. Some larger businesses report monthly or annually. Your reporting frequency is set by the ATO and depends on turnover and other factors.
GST credits (input tax credits) are what you can claim on business purchases for which you paid GST. You claim them on your BAS to offset GST collected on sales, reducing the amount payable to the ATO.
We can refer you to trusted partners for BAS lodgement and bookkeeping (see Tools section). We also provide guidance on completing BAS if required.

Sole Traders, Ride-share & Special Cases

Sole traders register using their ABN. The form asks for date of birth and contact details. Tax consequences differ for sole traders — consider speaking to a tax agent if unsure.
Ride-share income counts toward your GST turnover. If projected annual turnover (including ride-share) exceeds $75,000 you must register. We have a dedicated note for drivers — contact support.
Yes. We register GST for all business structures (companies, trusts, partnerships). Provide the entity details and ABN when applying.

Penalties, Contact & Next Steps

The ATO may apply penalties or interest if you were required to register and did not. Contact us to review your situation — we can help manage voluntary disclosures and liaise with the ATO.
